SECULAR CHRISTIANITY

Secular Christianity.
What is it?
How is it exhibited today?

I'm going to start with that last question.   It is exhibited in politics, social activity, religious institutions, causes/missions and media.

Probably the best definite of Secular Christianity is defined by the Bible itself by the writer, Apostle Paul.   It is found in his 2nd letter to Timothy.  Paul writes, in chapter 3, verses 1-5,
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy , without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power.  Have nothing to do with them."
The key is having the "form of godliness" and denying its power.  Many church-goers like to use this list to describe and point an accusatory finger at everyone else but themselves.  They love to blame others for the state of things.  In short; the lives of people who claim to be Christian are no different from their secular counterparts.

The overall description lists characteristics that are running rampant in American Christianity.   It is the way people behave toward others and their views of others.   It is in the mission organizations views of the people they serve and in the churches that claim to be houses of worship.   Maybe better more contemporary synonyms would be, lovers of pop psychology, lovers of affluence, proud of their status and accomplishments within the community.   They are without care and compassion for people that do not agree with them and seek to destroy them.   They lack any sort of self restraint in their daily practice.  They claim to be lovers of good but treacherous and react out of fear and emotional disturbance and distrust.  They brag about their accomplishments.   They are involved with activist causes, volunteering or donating goods and money, that allows them to be involved from a distance but they won't lift a finger to be involved in positive way in their day to day living.   Even though they invoke God and the name of Jesus Christ the attributes of neither are present.   They say one thing and do another.

Why have I stopped going to church?  Verse 5 ends with "Have nothing to do with them."  I cannot promote change among them because they do not want to hear it.   I do not need to waste my time and breath.  I choose to no longer be called a "christian"  but I am a follower of THE WAY (as taught by Christ).  Acts 24:14, "However, I admit that I worship the God of our fathers as a follower of the Way...."  I do not wish to support or promote the Secular Christianity that is running rampant and unchecked in America today.  God is NOT in programs & institutions.
