THIS IS THE END!
Just a question really; Do the "end times" keep recurring as part of the life cycle of all things?
An odd question? Perhaps. But I seriously started to think of this while reading the books of Daniel and Revelations. I also am keeping in mind that religious people are constantly referring to the time we live in now as the end times. It seems like every generation has it's "end times". In the book of Daniel (mid 6th century BC) those end times have already happened. In the book of Revelation (late 1st century AD) there is an interpretation that discusses the notion that most of that has already happened. Their lives (culture, politics, religious and social practices) as they had known it have passed on. They have ended long ago.
What are actually the "end times" for our current life cycle? Each life cycle seems to have it's prophets that have a vision of the end. Who are our prophets? And I'm not talking about the false prophets, like the one that claimed the world would end on May 21, 2011, and later again, that the world would end on October 21, 2011 (obviously neither happened). Why call these prophets of prediction false? Because the world didn't end. Life goes on. Why were these prophets wrong? I wonder if it's because the Christian community has been basing their thinking of the end times on what was written in Daniel and Revelation which have already happened. Maybe what we need is some earnest insight into our current life situation and be aware of the prophets who are predicting an end to life as we know it based on the natural life cycle of all things. I don't know. Just thinking. I have more questions than answers here.
I think, quite possibly, George Carlin is one of the great prophets of our time. He calls out the "weaknesses" in our culture and pokes fun at them where they need to be poked fun at. In this case religion he is rejecting what religion has become and how God is portrayed. Enjoy this video.
