Is your life murky? Or is it just clouded by wrong perceptions?
Those are questions I ask myself often. Usually I find that what I may feel is murky does not have to determine my emotional state or outlook on life at that moment. I can change my perceptions.
This morning I read in Psalm 129:1-4
"They have greatly oppressed me from my youth -
let Israel say - they have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
but they have not gained the victory over me.
Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
But the Lord is righteous;
he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked."
In this Psalm we see the reality, the perception and the conscious choice to change that perception in spite of the reality. It's not about escape. It's about perception. Sometimes the difficulties of our real lives can serve as a reminder to get back to our spiritual sources. It's where that freedom of spirit comes from that no one can oppress. People can only oppress the physical body the realities of day to day living but they can only oppress the spirit if we let them. The fight is a spiritual one not a physical one.
